During the first week at SSCC, you will select your preference for Specialty Shifts.  The choices of Specialty Shifts are:  Fountain, Boat Dock, Town Run and Airport Run, Social Hours, Wine Shift, and Campfire.  There are also opportunities to lead nature Hikes, Yoga, Art & Crafts,  and Kid’s programming.  Take some time to read about the different shifts, and once you are at camp, converse with returning staffers to get a better feel as to what shifts you would prefer.

Fountain

The Fountain is our Camp store.  Here we sell everything from wine, beer, soft drinks, and specialty coffee beverages  to SSCC apparel, as well as toiletries and sundries. While working a Fountain shift, you will be responsible for handling retail transactions and interacting with the guests in a more personal context.

Boat Dock

More than just hanging out on the boat dock, you are responsible for the safety of everyone who takes boats out and keeping track of where they are, how many people are aboard and if they need assistance.

Town Run and Airport Run

We make a daily run to our Town Office, Post Office, grocery store, local vendors, and any other places where we might need items picked up.  This task involves driving one of SSCC vehicles, usually our camp Subaru and navigating through town to run the various errands for the day.

On arrival and departure days, we provide guests with transportation to and from the local airport shuttle service at Stateline, Nevada. Experience driving a 8+ passenger vehicle is preferred for this shift.

Social Hour & Wine Shift

Social Hours typically occur either before dinner or later in the evening.  You are responsible for obtaining the necessary supplies, setting up, restocking as necessary, and cleaning up at the end as well as interacting with the guests as they socialize amongst themselves.

Wine shifts occur during dinner.  You are responsible for selling beer, wine, and some soft beverages.  You begin your shift by setting up your table, counting the till, and making sure you are stocked up.  During dinner you will be selling beverages to the guests and keeping track of what you sell.  At the end of your shift you need to restock, count and deposit your money, and then clean up your station for the next night’s wine shift. You will be responsible for some money transactions, a little knowledge of wine and interacting with guests.

Other Specialities

There are also a number of different shifts that occur during the season that are totally dependent on the conferences. For instance some groups bring their children with them and we provide morning programs exploring camp and learning about the environment. If you like to get on stage and entertain-80’s Bingo or hosting trivia might suit you. Nature enthusiasts might enjoy leading a hike up into Desolation Wilderness or teaching yoga. Or perhaps sitting around the campfire, strumming on the guitar, singing songs and making s’mores.
